About cycling events

In an oval-shaped cycling arena, track races are conducted counter-clockwise using bicycles called track racers or track bikes. Unlike road races where riders pass by in a second and the whole picture of the race is hard to grasp in that brief moment, track races allow spectators to enjoy all the runs, strategies, and tactics demonstrated inside the velodrome. The close proximity of riders racing on the track builds great excitement especially in world championships when both spectators and riders share the emotions and the thrill of the races.

Venue | Kurayoshi Cycling Track 68-24 Sakura-aza Ushiroyama, Kurayoshi City, Tottori |

Road races take place in pubic roads. All the riders start at once and compete to finish the race ahead of others. It is basically an individual race, but it can also appear to be a group competition. When biking alone, considerable physical strength is required due to the aerodynamic drag. For this reason, riders sometimes appear to ride in groups to achieve team objectives, sharing roles in different stages of the race. Team members work closely together and employ tactics to help a leading member (who is good at that particular flat or mountainous course) win the race.
